BIO
Canadian internationally recognized artist Lori Burke draws much of her inspiration for her work from her inner voice and human connection. As a self-taught intuitive artist, she has honed her craft through research and workshops. Lori had a passion for painting from a young age and while she believes she has a gift for it thanks to a strong intuition and a deep connection to the soul, one cannot deny the fact that she also comes by her craft, quite honestly. Her great-grandmother was also a well-known artist who painted and exhibited her work until her 80s, earning her the nickname "Canadian Grandma Moses" in her hometown of Moorefield, Ontario.
Originally from the Horseshoe Valley ski area north of Toronto, Lori now resides in a picturesque waterfront town in Ridgeway, Ontario. While her primary medium is acrylics, she often incorporates mixed media to enhance the movement, grace, and drama present in her work. Lori is continually working on new pieces for competitions, collaborations, and commissions. She is also committed to giving back to her community and serves on the board of The Fort Erie Arts Council. Additionally, she teaches art classes to patients in the Walker Family Cancer Center at St. Catherine's Hospital in Ontario.
“I feel compelled to convey my truth through my art by making each piece with integrity and soulfulness. The pull of creative expression guides my personal connection to spaces, people around me and my desire to show compassion for all living things. When I paint, I embark on a journey which usually begins with a strong vision in my mind’s eye and my soul that I have a need to express.
These emotions guide me through the process and I don’t stop working on a piece until it evokes a memory; something that tells me the story is finished and I am ready to move on. What drives me are the strong impulses I feel, and being present as the emotions come pouring out. Whether I am painting an abstract composition, skyscape, cityscape or waterscape, I tap into what inspires me at the moment. Sometimes ideas have come from my dreams. Most often, the focus is the pull of all earth’s elements and the inherent drama and tension between colour and light. I love and live to paint and try to infuse each piece with grit and graceful movement. I am humbled and grateful daily for the opportunity to share my visual stories and connect with people.”
